Not a commemoration, nor a date in the history books, but an ongoing tragedy that has irrevocably changed the fate of each and every person and faith of the Holy Land, the Nakba (catastrophe) is marked on 15 May for the Palestinian people to mark the ethnic cleansing of historic Palestine in 1948, in which up to 800,000 Palestinians from over 500 communities were forcibly displaced, the majority of which have never been allowed to return.

Statement on Gaza Aid Convoy Attack |

|
Holy Land Trust was shocked and dismayed to hear of the unwarranted
deaths of human rights activists taking part in the Gaza Aid Convoy on the early morning of
May 31st, 2010. While reports
are still conflicting as to the death toll and specific events that transpired on board the ships in the convoy, Holy Land Trust condemns the acts of violence
that were perpetuated against the convoy by the Israeli forces in international
waters.
Whether or not claims that specific individuals on
board the
ship acted to defend themselves using violent means, regardless of
whether the
death toll is closer to 10 or 20, and no matter which element of the
Israeli occupation
apparatus is responsible for this unwarranted, illegal and unjustifiable
attack, Holy Land Trust stands by
those seeking to end one of the greatest human rights violations in
modern history
through challenging the Gaza Strip blockade through nonviolence as we
work towards the same purpose in the occupied West Bank.
We call on all people seeking a lasting, just peace
in the
Holy Land to join us in working towards the end to Israeli intimidation,
aggression
and violence towards both the people of Gaza and the international
community challenging the occupation through nonviolence. Please keep
the victims and their families of those killed and injured today in your
thoughts and prayers, along with the aggressors who have committed and
ordered these horrendous actions.
We will be issuing updates both on our website and PNN
English as information
becomes
available.
In Peace,
The Team of Holy Land Trust

I first applied to work with Holy Land Trust in the hope of learning more about what life is like in the West Bank, while also photographing some strong stories to take home. The first thing I realized on arriving in Bethlehem was how generous the staff were willing to be in providing me with the best opportunities to meet people and witness first hand the experiences that Palestinians are living with every day. Marwan, Lubna and Ahmad have been taking a great deal of time to show me around, and in the short time I have stayed with them I have had so many chances to meet people and ask questions.

Omar Ayyoub just came by chance to his agricultural land when he had to find his storage building about to get demolished. The building was a large, but simple construction of concrete pillars topped by a tin roof since Omar got the order to stop building 8 months ago, even so it is legal by Israeli law to build a storage building on your agricultural land.
