Besides our programming of different local events, Alkul currently has two regular programs. Don’t worry – there will be more to come!
What’s The Talk?
A regular feature on Alkul, this lively morning show runs from 8:30-9:30, Monday through Saturday. The host is Bethlehemite Attah Mana, who brings our viewers a round-up of news and events relating to Palestine and the city of Bethlehem. This show regularly features traditional Palestinian music produced by local artists, including lively Dabkeh tunes. We are hopeful that this program will become the morning show to watch in Bethlehem.
What About Your Rights?
Working through a grant made possible by the European Union, this show has been focusing on the legal rights of Palestinians as empowered by the Palestinian Authority. Representatives of the legal and civil authority within the Bethlehem area have been active in the program. Program director Ashraf Shaheen reports that the response to the programs has been positive. "After highlighting a lack of farming subsidies promised by the Palestinian Authority, we received a call from the Ministry of Agriculture the very next day, asking our TV crew to come on out and document farmers receiving their checks".
This television program is the first step towards involving community figures, ranging from Palestinian Authority representatives, Bethlehem municipality employees, local legal advocates and everyday workers. We hope that the success of this program will lead to other opportunities for our crew!
