You may be surprised to find that there isn’t too much information about Alkul on our website. Part of this is because we are starting small and hope to expand, but another reason is that we don’t intend on producing much literature about Alkul for the English-speaking world.
Part of the philosophy of our efforts in television is to help the people of the Bethlehem area reclaim a sense of self-dependence and reliability for the community. Foreign aid and NGO grants have helped with developing regional infrastructure for roads, bridges and water supplies. Nonprofits and religious institutions have succeeded in helping bring Bethlehemites to virtually every corner of the world. These efforts are well-intentioned and needed, but do not usually focus upon building a true sense of community. They can’t, and they won’t, because true community involvement can not be brought from the outside. It must come from within; from all, for all.
There are, however, opportunities for our staff to develop its resources through international assistance. We are hoping one day in the not-so-distant future to be 100% financially independent through advertising and local sponsorship, but we’re not there yet. We are, however, ready and willing to hear from you about how we can get to that point.
If you have experience or knowledge with regards to television stations, and are interested in the concept of Alkul TV, we would like to hear from you. Volunteer and intern positions will be available in the near future. We are also looking for people who can help us locate international funding and grants so we can build up our infrastructure by purchasing equipment, hiring more staff and acquiring a media library to help fill in times when we don’t have our own programming to run.
Helping a Palestinian TV station get on its feet may not be for everyone, but if it is for you, send us an email and let us know how you would like to become active in making Alkul TV become a voice for Bethlehem. We thank you for your support.
