Alkul is still just in the beginning stages, but we have big hopes. Here are some of the ideas discussed for programming:

Emergency Broadcasting – In the event of natural or man-made catastrophe, Alkul hopes to provide critical information through emergency broadcast services.

Public Information and Events –Alkul will be there for the bad news, but we want to cover the good as well. Upcoming events from religious and cultural affairs to weddings and celebrations will be part of our programming; and will hopefully become a centerpiece as we develop our relationship with the public.

Civil Rights and Social Issues – Prisoner’s issues, civil rights abuses from both Israel and the Palestinian Territories, passports and citizenship, upcoming elections and public disputes will not be taboo subjects for Alkul. We have had some success already in these areas and are hoping to keep it up.

Local Media Coverage – If it’s not the Pope, then it’s the President. The people of Bethlehem always know when an important international figure is coming. Why? Because when they go to work, there’s a new paint job for the curbs and the streets are clean! All joking aside, Bethlehem’s significance to the Christian faith as the birthplace of Christ, its regional importance as one of Palestine’s most developed urban areas, and its unfortunate position on the front-line of the ongoing Israeli occupation means that the news most often is in the very backyard of Alkul’s offices off of Manger Street. Alkul has been, and will continue to, cover local news events, visits by foreign dignitaries, and more.

Faith and Culture Programming – Whether it’s the three Christmases of the Western, Eastern and Armenian denominations, Ramadan , Palestinian national holidays, or just a special occasion, Alkul is planning to be there for some of the most important events of the year.

Women’s Issues - One of the core elements of Alkul will be strengthening the presence and interaction of women in the Bethlehem area at a regional level. Programs involving civil rights, motherhood, health, hygene and more will be discussed.

For Youth and Teens – Storytelling, programs discussing critical issues facing youth, covering activities and events are a critical part of our efforts to build the confidence and knowledge of the next generation of Palestine. We also hope to hand over the camera and microphone to some of our committed teenagers and young adults so that they can develop their own shows!

“Wake Up Bethlehem” – Alkul TV crews will go film Bethlehem’s charm as its citizens start the day. Viewers will be able to watch their family, friends and neighbors set up shop, go to work or school, head to the local churches and Mosques, and give their opinions and thoughts to Alkul staff.

Oh pueblecito de Belen - The Bethlehem area has a large expatriate community in Latin and South America, with especially strong ties to Chile, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatamala and Peru. We are hoping to initiate news services and partnerships in these respective countries (and eventually, webstreaming) so that the Palestinian diaspora can stay better connected about news and events back home, and also for those in the area looking to stay updated on news where their friends and family are living.

Alkul TV Online – Though not a possibility as of yet, we are hoping to put Alkul programming online through web-streaming.

Who knows what else the future will bring? Stay in touch and we’ll keep you informed….
